Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How are parents kept informed about their child’s progress?

A: At The LGLT of Flint, documentation is very important. We will send home (or e-mail) a daily sheet that gives you an overview of your child’s day. It will include things like what your little one had to eat, if he/she napped and for how long, diaper changes and potty attempts, and we will also include a few activities that we enjoyed or a special moment that he/she had.

Along with daily correspondence, we will also start a portfolio for your child. You will be able to access this portfolio at any time, but it will be shared during parent/teacher conferences as well. Conferences will be held at least two times per year, along with other events, such as curriculum night, to allow parents to be involved and see what kinds of things their child will be doing in our program. If at any time you wish to set up a private conference outside of the designated events, you are more than welcome!

Q: What ages does The LGLT of Flint serve?

A:  The LGLT of Flint  accepts ages 6 weeks-5 years. We recently launched an infant/toddler program that we are very excited about. However, infant/toddler spots are extremely limited. Please contact The Little Green Learning Tree to check availability.

Q: What are your hours of operation?

A: Our hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00am-5:30pm. However, if by some chance you need to drop your child off a little bit early, we may be able to accommodate your schedule with advanced notice.

Q: Are meals provided?

A: Yes, the cost of meals is covered in your tuition. We serve all natural, whole food meals and snacks. We serve mostly organic foods and try to buy local whenever possible. We serve breakfast to those who arrive by 7:30 am, followed by a morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack.

Parents of infants and young toddlers are expected to provide formula/breast milk as well as baby food. Once your little one is ready for table foods, we will begin providing meals.

Q: What are “in-house” field trips?

A: In-house field trips are field trips that come to us! We will have a variety of visitors throughout the year come to visit us. They may teach us a new skill, teach us about our community, do a project with us…the possibilities are endless!

Q: Will my child go on field trips outside the facility?

A: Your child will never be transported in a vehicle to a field trip. Because we are lucky enough to have a few establishments close by, we may go on a walking field trips to places like the Flint Children’s Museum, or an event in the park. Parents will be notified in advance and will be required to sign a permission slip for such events.

Q: What do you mean when you say that you are “eco-friendly?”

A: It means that we try to be as environmentally responsible as we can! We are also in the process of obtaining an Eco- Healthy Child Care Endorsement. Upon entering our classroom you will find wood floors and freshly Zero-VOC painted walls. We have energy efficient light bulbs, and our environment is free from synthetic air fresheners and candles.

Most of our toys are wood and/or recycled material, and any plastic is BPA free. We try to reuse and upcyle whenever possible, and we use all natural cleaners without all of the harsh chemicals. All of our paper products are made with recycled material.

We try to involve our little ones in being environmentally responsible, too! We practice the three R's- "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle."
