Preschool Program

Our preschool program is greatly influenced by the Reggio Emilia Approach. However, given that all children are unique and learn in different ways, you will find a bit of a mixed curriculum in our classroom. Upon entering, you will see a warm and inviting classroom with plenty of opportunity for group and individual learning experiences. You will see learning tools that foster imaginative play and child-directed learning.  You will also see evidence of a more classic preschool approach, with pocket charts, letter puzzles, and number charts. We believe balance is the key to creating the perfect environment for young children to learn and grow.

Art and opportunity for self-expression are vital parts of our curriculum. There will always be materials available for children to create and communicate through art. Throughout the year, the children in our program will have the opportunity to work independently on projects as well as in a group. Some may take an hour to complete, while others may be ongoing. You'll find many of these projects on display for further exploration and admiration by children and parents alike!

Healthy living is another important part of our program. Not only are healthy, whole meals and snacks served daily but 2-3 meals a week are vegetarian. Morning yoga is part of our daily routine along with outside time at least twice a day (weather permitting). We will have open dialogue about how our actions affect the world around us, and what we can do to reduce our carbon footprint. In the spring, each child will be given a small plot to plant a vegetable of their choice. They spend the warm months learning about how plants grow while tending to their own little gardens. Recycling is BIG in our program as well.

Community involvement is something that we strive to instill in all of our little ones. We try to stay active in our community wherever possible.

We are very fortunate to have a park within walking distance and we have plenty of opportunities to take nature walks and enjoy what our neighborhood has to offer. We will have in-house field trips throughout the year. During these special events, we will have vistors coming into our classroom to offer new and exciting experiences for our group. For example, we may have a local artist come in and teach us a new art technique, or a firefighter come talk us about fire safety.

The basic theme at The LGLT of Flint is "The World Around Us." This broad theme enables us to explore ecosystems, our community, different cultures, our families...the possibilites are endless!
